Ex-Atlanta Mayor Bottoms to join Biden campaign as senior adviser

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will join President Biden’s reelection campaign as a senior adviser, the campaign confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday.

Bottoms served as Senior Advisor for Civic Engagement at the White House from 2022 to 2023 and Vice Chair for Civic Engagement and Voter Protection at the Democratic National Committee (DNC). She served as Mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022.

Her campaign moves First reported by Ebony This comes just one day before the first presidential debate is scheduled to be held in Atlanta.

“We have suffered four years of Donald Trump’s policies and erratic behavior, and four more years of promising retribution against his political opponents is just the tip of the iceberg of chaos he will once again bring to America,” she told Ebony.

Bottoms gained national recognition as a surrogate for Biden during the 2020 presidential election and was on the shortlist of candidates for vice presidential nomination before Harris, the current vice president, was named the nominee.

The former mayor’s switch to Biden comes as Biden is trailing former President Trump in her home state of Georgia, where a new poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution gives Trump a 5-point lead.

Biden has also struggled to win over black voters in this election, with polls earlier this month suggesting Trump could win up to a fifth of black voters.
