Allegations Against Former Nets Co-Owner
A former co-owner of the Brooklyn Nets, Arthur Rabin, is facing serious accusations of drugging and sexually assaulting a single mother who works as a flight attendant. This incident reportedly occurred in a hotel room in South Beach towards the end of 2024.
Rabin, who co-founded Wear Me Apparel and sold his stake in the Brooklyn team a few years back, is accused of drugging Brenda Ramirez, the flight attendant, after they had initially met on a flight to Miami in 2022. Their connection was seemingly friendly, with Rabin offering to send clothes for her son, but the lawsuit suggests otherwise.
The legal documents imply that Rabin’s actions were “extreme and outrageous,” far beyond what society would accept. Ramirez said that after consuming champagne that seemed off, she blacked out. Upon regaining consciousness, she alleges she found Rabin engaged in sexual acts with her.
Ramirez reported feeling unwell and ran to the bathroom to be sick, as detailed in her lawsuit.
The pair had established a relationship that included phone calls and Rabin’s unsolicited monetary gifts, which her lawyer suggests were a means for him to gain her trust. “Rabin manipulated her trust, using his wealth and status,” explained Meredith A. Firetog, an attorney representing Ramirez. “Last year, he betrayed that trust in a deceitful act.”
As of now, it hasn’t been confirmed whether a police report was filed regarding the incident. Rabin has been known as a significant contributor to Hillary Clinton’s campaign and was previously involved in a legal dispute with Citibank over lost credit card points.
Rabin’s attorney, Larry Hatcher, strongly denied the allegations, claiming that Ramirez willingly entered his hotel room and consumed drinks he provided. “Mr. Rabin is appalled that she’s attempting to tarnish his reputation with these ungrounded claims for financial reasons,” Hatcher stated.
The lawsuit also indicates that while most interactions happened over the phone, they did meet in person a few times. During one lunch in Miami, Rabin showed interest in Ramirez, and they later agreed to meet when she had a layover in Los Angeles in 2023. However, Rabin then reportedly declined to invite her to his hotel room, which left her feeling angry.
After the alleged assault in Miami, Ramirez described intense emotions in her lawsuit, stating she felt betrayed and cutting off contact with Rabin. The allegations paint a concerning picture of manipulation and violation of trust.
