Nick Chubb Signs with Houston Texans
Nick Chubb has officially joined a new team in the NFL. The former star running back for the Cleveland Browns has inked a one-year deal with the Houston Texans, reportedly worth up to $5 million. The contract includes a base salary of $2.5 million.
Chubb’s transition to Houston had been anticipated, though the deal was still pending as of Monday. While there was some speculation about a possible reunion with the Browns before the 2025 NFL Draft, discussions didn’t lead to a mutual agreement. Consequently, Chubb sought opportunities elsewhere and found one with an offense known for its effectiveness.
He will now be teaming up with running back Joe Mixon, who has had impressive seasons, including rushing for over 1,300 yards. The Texans seem to be leaning into the idea of having a dynamic duo in their backfield. This strategy is also seen with other teams like the Detroit Lions, which has proved effective.
Chubb’s career with the Browns had its highlights, notably his standout performance in his second season when he rushed for 1,494 yards, earning a Pro Bowl selection. However, his trajectory was disrupted during a Monday Night Football game in 2023, when a severe knee injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Initially hesitant about his return, Chubb did come back, but his performances were not at his usual caliber, prompting the Browns to bolster their roster with new running backs.
Now, as he embarks on this new chapter with the Texans, there’s hope that Chubb can regain his pre-injury form and contribute to the team’s playoff aspirations.
