Ex-Californian deputy Marvin Morales, believed to have killed his 11-year-old son, is shot dead during a police chase.

A former sheriff’s deputy in California was shot dead by police on Tuesday after he led them on a car chase along Interstate 5. This incident followed allegations that he had fatally stabbed his 11-year-old son, according to authorities.

Officers in Elk Grove, a suburb of Sacramento, responded around 8 a.m. to a distress call from a mother who was worried about her children’s safety. She reported that home security footage showed the father attacking his son.

Upon their arrival, police discovered the boy had suffered stab wounds. Sadly, he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His 6-year-old sister was unharmed.

Authorities reported that the father fled the scene, with deputies later spotting him driving south on Interstate 5.

The high-speed pursuit came to an end when a crash occurred near Lodi, after spike strips were deployed by the California Highway Patrol. Following the crash, officers shot and killed the suspect.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Elk Grove Police Department identified the suspect as 40-year-old Marvin Morales, a former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Johnson noted that Morales had been dismissed from the department in February 2024 due to an arrest for illegal drug use.

Reports indicated that at least two law enforcement personnel were involved in the shooting, with an Elk Grove officer also present at the scene. Thankfully, no officers or deputies were injured in the incident.

It remains unclear if Morales fired at the police during the confrontation, and investigators discovered that a gun safe at his home was empty.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
