Ex-college football player accidentally shoots, kills mom thinking she was intruder: ‘He hasn’t stopped crying’

A former college football player accidentally shot and killed his mother over the weekend, thinking she was an intruder trying to break into his Missouri home.

“He just wouldn’t stop crying,” said William Goldstein, the 25-year-old man’s attorney. Over the weekend, I went to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Jalen Johnson shot and killed his mother around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, thinking she was an intruder as she tried to break into their Olivet home in suburban St. Louis through the back door, police said.

His lawyer said his son kept a gun in the house for protection after he was robbed at gunpoint.

The son called 911 immediately after the shooting and has been distraught ever since, his attorney said.

“He hasn’t stopped crying,” Johnson’s attorney, William Goldstein, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch over the weekend. ksdk

Prosecutors charged Johnson with manslaughter and armed criminal action.

His bail was set at $100,000.

Johnson was a college football player, is currently employed, and has no criminal history, according to his lawyers and officials.
