Coaching Staff Changes Proposed for Colorado Buffaloes
Matt McChesney, a former star player at the University of Colorado and a supporter of Deion Sanders, has expressed his concerns about the coaching staff of the Buffaloes, suggesting that significant changes are necessary.
“I’m surprised Pat Shurmur is still employed,” McChesney remarked. “Honestly, I can’t think of anyone else in college football or the NFL who would still have a job after what he’s done. It’s particularly jarring since Coach Prime didn’t hesitate to let coach Lewis go during his first year at San Diego State.” The remarks came during a discussion on Blaze TV with Jason Whitlock.
He continued, “It’s hard to look at the current staff and believe they’re supporting Coach Prime effectively. And I don’t think Coach Prime is necessarily aiding them either. When faced with a tough situation surrounded by friends, are you really going to fire them? I doubt that’s going to happen.” McChesney thinks the coaching staff ought to be scrutinized rigorously and added, “If they don’t make substantial changes, things aren’t going to be acceptable.”
Whitlock echoed the sentiment that modifications are crucial, especially concerning how the administration approaches future head coaches.
“As a Colorado fan, my worry would be, ‘We backed Dion wholeheartedly. If he leaves or is terminated, will the administration support the next coach in the same manner?’” Whitlock pondered. “Or will there be reluctance? What if they think, ‘We just got burned, and now we owe Dion all this money?’ Is there a risk that this could cause lasting damage?”
McChesney commented on the possibility of Sanders resigning, saying, “If Coach Prime intends to walk away selfishly, I hope he does so without receiving any pay. It is what it is.” Whitlock chimed in with a laugh, “Dion is leaving with no money.”
McChesney isn’t optimistic about the future of the coaching staff. “In situations where favoritism and self-centeredness are so prevalent, it’s nearly impossible to see meaningful change,” he said.
