Ex-FBI Director Comey Now Undergoing Federal Trial

Charlie Kirk’s recent criticisms of former FBI director James Comey have come to light after Kirk’s assassination earlier this month. These long-standing accusations against Comey gained prominence in the wake of his federal charges of false statements and obstruction of justice.

Charlie Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, was shot while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. In the lead-up to his death, he used social media to repeatedly accuse Comey of fraud linked to investigations into President Donald Trump. A tweet from 2019 suggested wanting a “comedic bullet” to see Comey’s reaction, accusing him of staging a coup against Trump and labeling him the “most corrupt FBI director” from the Obama era.

In a January 2020 post, Kirk likened Comey to actor Jussie Smollett, alleging he concocted false narratives intended to damage Trump. He criticized Comey for not facing consequences, expressing disappointment in the Justice Department’s handling of leaks related to the Russian investigation. By February 2020, Kirk listed Comey among others to express what he called “two tiers of justice in America.” He encouraged followers to demand accountability for Comey’s actions regarding General Michael Flynn, which resonated with over 27,000 retweets.

In May 2025, Kirk took aim at Comey again after he posted a picture of “8647” formed with shells on a beach. Kirk deemed this post “cringe,” implying it was a shallow attempt to promote a book. Comey’s earlier Instagram comments had also come under scrutiny for possibly inciting violence, leading to their removal. His social media posts included images from a walk on the beach with his wife.

Recently, Kirk’s prolonged criticisms gained renewed attention following Comey’s indictment for making false statements and obstructing justice, with charges stemming from his 2020 Senate testimony. An inspector general’s report mentioned that Comey, with the help of his deputy Andrew McCabe, leaked information to the press.

After the indictment, Comey released a video asserting he is “not afraid” to go to trial, maintaining his innocence, and urging the public to vote as if their country’s future depended on it. Senior White House Advisor Peter Navarro labeled Comey a “useful idiot” linked to the Russian conspiracy rumors, suggesting a pattern of targeting conservatives and Trump supporters.

Former President Donald Trump reacted to Comey’s charges by expressing hope that others who “weaponized the Department of Justice” would also face consequences. In a social media post, he labeled Comey “the dirty cop,” suggesting he had deliberately misled the public and would face severe repercussions.

Navarro, co-authoring a piece with his fiancée Bonnie Brenner, characterized Kirk’s murder in the context of political violence and stressed the need for accountability. He linked Comey to the Steele dossier and the Russian probe, indicating there could be repeated attempts to undermine conservatives.

Throughout his final months, Kirk warned about what he termed the “assassination culture” in American politics, citing polls indicating some liberals believe violence against prominent individuals could be justified. After his assassination on September 10, he had written extensively about crimes in relation to race and societal perceptions, particularly referencing a case involving a Ukrainian refugee and the media’s portrayal of it.

On September 17, a previous statement by Kirk resurfaced, saying “Jimmy Kimmel is not funny,” after Kimmel’s comments about Kirk’s assassination prompted ABC and Disney to withdraw support for his show, a decision Trump supported.

Even after his death, Kirk’s words and positions continue to resonate in public discourse.
