Paul Renner Enters Florida Governor Race
Paul Renner, a former Republican Florida House Speaker, has announced his candidacy for governor. He joins the race after receiving support from President Donald Trump for Rep. Byron Donald earlier this year.
Renner expressed his intentions on social media, saying, “As a member of the House and Speaker, I will stand with Ron DeSantis to promote the Free State of Florida. I’m running for governor, and when the DeSantis era ends, we can safeguard our achievements and tackle any leftover issues.”
Current Governor Ron DeSantis, having completed two terms, is not eligible for re-election in 2026. He mentioned, “I think it’s a good time to enter the race.”
Recently, Florida’s Surgeon General indicated that schools may no longer be required to mandate vaccines.
According to Florida’s State Constitution, individuals who have served as governor or representative governor for more than six years over two consecutive terms are prohibited from being elected for another term.
Renner, reflecting on his past experiences, stated, “As a military veteran and former prosecutor, I’ve faced tough battles. I will continue fighting for conservative values. As a father, I’m committed to ensuring Florida’s safety and prosperity for the upcoming generation.”
Senator Rick Scott is also backing Byron Donald, who is running for governor.
Donald announced his candidacy earlier this year, encouraged by Trump’s support. “Byron Donald will be a truly great and powerful governor for Florida. If he chooses to run, he will have my full support,” Trump commented.
In other news, DeSantis is pushing back against a movement to remove LGBT rainbow colors from a crosswalk in Orlando.
Former Governor Rick Scott, who currently serves in the U.S. Senate, also endorses Donald.
