Ex-Gettysburg Mayor Chad-Alan Carr taken into custody for child sex offenses

Former Gettysburg Mayor Faces Child Sex Crime Charges

A former mayor from Pennsylvania has been charged with child sex crimes, just two weeks after resigning from his position following accusations of grooming a young boy while volunteering at a local theater group.

Chad Alan Carr, who left office after a brief tenure, cited personal issues that he stated were not related to his responsibilities in city government.

Carr, 48, has been charged with serious felonies including child sexual abuse and abetting child sexual abuse, alongside misdemeanor charges of corruption of minors, according to court documents.

Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett revealed on Friday that Carr had solicited inappropriate materials from at least one teenage boy between 2011 and 2013.

“Chad Alan Carr has made allegations that he groomed this particular individual since before he was 16 years old, and we believe that to be true,” Sinnett commented during a press conference.

It’s alleged that Carr groomed the boy and convinced him to send nude videos and photographs. Due to the statute of limitations, other potential charges against him could not be pursued, according to Sinnett.

Carr’s lawyer, John Abom, opted not to comment on the lawsuit when approached for a statement.

Further investigation has revealed that multiple other witnesses have come forward detailing alleged inappropriate conduct by Carr, but those actions were not deemed to warrant criminal charges.

During the time these allegations came to light, Carr was volunteering at Gettysburg High School and was the executive director of the Gettysburg Community Theater.

The victim, now grown, informed investigators that Carr had been in his life for several years. Their communication began when the victim was 16, predominantly through Facebook Messenger and Skype. Reports indicate that the conversation shifted to a more sexual nature and persisted until the victim turned 17.

Before resigning as mayor, Carr reportedly admitted to a friend that the allegations he faced were true. He is currently being held on a bond of $100,000, with his next court date set for March 20.
