Ex-Giants Lineman Korey Cunningham Dead at 28, 18 Months After Final NFL Game

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Corey Cunningham was found dead in his home Thursday. He was only 28 years old.

The Giants released statement“We are sorry to hear of the passing of Corey Cunningham. He was an integral part of the spirit and camaraderie in our locker room. Our thoughts are with Corey’s family, friends, and teammates.” CBS News reported.

The cause of death has not yet been reported.

Cunningham signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2019 after the team drafted him as a seventh-round pick. He previously played at the University of Cincinnati.

After missing part of his rookie season with the Cardinals due to a foot injury, he was traded to the New England Patriots and played a few seasons before signing with the Giants in 2021. He played in 12 games over the next two years, and then Cunningham played in 31 career games, six of which were starts.

Several teammates took to social media to express their shock and sadness over the loss.

ESPN added that safety Jason Pinnock commented on the loss on Instagram.

“This hurts! No matter what you were going through, you had the biggest smile on your face! When I started settling into NYG, you were the first person to come to help me move. If you’re halfway through camp and looking to join the team and learn a new playbook, you’re ready to go first at my house! Take care and call your friends! , I love you!” he wrote.

The Montevallo, Alabama, native remained in the Northeast after leaving the NFL and was a resident of Clifton, New Jersey at the time of his death.
