Former Iraqi Official Added to Terror Watchlist
A former Iraqi official, recognized under the Biden administration, has now been placed on the U.S. government’s “Terror Watchlist,” and her visa has been revoked, according to various reports.
Taif Sami Mohammed Al Shakarchi, who once held the position of Iraq’s Minister of Finance, had her visa revoked recently, with the State Department confirming this news to Fox News. However, they did not specify when she was added to the terrorist watchlist. Assistant Secretary of State for Global Public Affairs, Dylan Johnson, commended the “Trump State Department” for withdrawing the visas of “foreigners who threaten our nation.”
“While the Biden State Department shamefully celebrated and awarded foreigners who threaten our nation, the Trump State Department revokes their visas and ensures these individuals are removed from our country,” Johnson pointed out.
Mohammed’s addition to the Terror Watchlist and the revocation of her visa followed her receiving “the State Department’s International Women of Courage Award in 2022.”
Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken once praised Mohammed, who was working as “Iraq’s deputy finance minister” at that time, as someone who “stopped bribes.” He highlighted her role in combatting corrupt practices in Iraq’s budget.
During her tenure as deputy finance minister and director general of Iraq’s budget department, she was recognized as a “frontline leader against corrupt practices,” contributing significantly to curbing corruption.
Blinken emphasized her efforts at the March 2022 awards ceremony, noting how she revealed attempts to inflate government payrolls and enrich corrupt officials.
According to reports from IraqiNews, Mohammed was later placed on a “judicial wanted list” after being summoned by an Iraqi court, which was looking into corruption allegations as of August 9, 2025.
A press release from the State Department also remarked that Mohammed “was presented an award by the Biden Administration for her purported role in the fight against corruption and her advocacy for ‘gender equity.’”
