Canadian police say they are searching for former Jets defensive back Darryl “Buster” Skrine after he missed a court appearance on bank fraud charges filed last year.
Skrein was arrested in August last year on suspicion of committing bank fraud of more than $100,000 in a scheme in which he opened new bank accounts with fraudulent check deposits and then withdrew funds from the accounts before the checks cleared. He was indicted.
Durham Regional Police Service announced on Wednesday Skrein was absent from court on May 6, and his GPS monitoring device “has since gone offline,” the statement said.
Skrein was granted bail by the Saskatchewan Correctional Center on April 24.
He is wanted on charges of failure to appear and failure to comply with a release order, and police have placed a $2,000 cash reward.
When he was first taken into custody, police cited the checking system and said, “We have reason to believe that the same man is committing similar crimes across Canada.”
Skrine played college football at Chattanooga and was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

In 2015, he signed a four-year contract with the Jets worth a total of $25 million.
He played in 59 games with the Jets over those four years, starting 48 of them.
He then played two seasons with the Bears and played for both the Titans and 49ers in the 2021 NFL season.
