Former Louisiana Teacher Charged with Attempting to Entice Student
A former high school teacher from Louisiana is now facing charges for allegedly trying to seduce a student into sexual activity, according to announcements from federal prosecutors.
Katherine Alvarado, who worked in St. Mary’s Parish, has been indicted on charges of attempting to entice a minor. Though she was indicted on December 17, 2025, details of the case were only revealed recently, which is indicative of how these investigations often unfold.
“Our primary goal is to protect children from those who misuse positions of trust,” stated U.S. Attorney Zachary Keller. He emphasized the responsibility of educators and the serious repercussions for those who breach that trust.
Alvarado reportedly began communicating with a 16-year-old student using a personal email account in May 2022, sending explicit messages and trying to persuade the boy into sexual acts. For about a month, she allegedly described specific sexual activities and even sent videos of herself attempting to seduce him. The student eventually graduated.
Following her arrest in June 2025, local police informed the St. Mary’s Parish Public Schools, which subsequently placed Alvarado on administrative leave. She resigned shortly thereafter. At that time, superintendent Buffy Fegenbush made clear that the safety and health of students were paramount, stressing that such actions do not align with the district’s values.
Currently, Alvarado is facing a potential life sentence. The investigation is ongoing, and inquiries have been made with the school district regarding the case.
