Ex-megachurch pastor claims Trump supporters are not good people

Pastor Critiques Support for Trump

In a recent blog post, former megachurch pastor John Pavlovitz expressed his strong opposition to anyone who supports President Donald Trump, declaring it impossible to consider them “good people.” He pointed out, “I often hear people say, ‘He or she’s a really nice guy who supports him'” and found this notion contradictory. He added that working with Trump is fundamentally opposed to being good.

Pavlovitz, who previously served as a youth pastor in North Carolina, has been a vocal critic of Trump since the 2016 elections. His writings have gained traction among progressive Christians, earning him the title of “Digital Pastor of Resistance” by a faith news outlet.

In his latest piece, he condemned Trump’s federal budget cuts and immigration policies, labeling them as “good” opposition. He firmly stated, “This president is not a good person,” asserting that it’s a truth that cannot be overlooked. “Objectively, he is one of the worst human beings, a moral void lacking conscience,” Pavlovitz stated.

He continued by asserting that the global consensus is that those who lead the country under Trump are, quite simply, terrible people.

In a related discourse, liberal commentators are increasingly encouraging others to cut ties with family members who support Trump. A former Obama speechwriter noted that he avoids engaging with conservative relatives altogether.

Pavlovitz argued that the only justification left for supporting Trump is a shared animosity towards marginalized groups, toxic misogyny, and a sense of personal superiority. His statements echo a broader sentiment among progressives advocating that those who supported Trump should be viewed as moral failures to be distanced from.

Pavlovitz has also hinted at concerns regarding the integrity of the upcoming 2024 election, expressing disappointment that a certain candidate didn’t receive adequate backing in the past.
