Former TV Anchor Sentenced for Mother’s Murder
A former news anchor from St. Louis, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the stabbing death of her mother last Halloween in Kansas. The court, specifically the Sedgwick County District Court, has set her eligibility for parole at 25 years.
This sentence follows a plea agreement where Mock admitted to first-degree murder. It’s a tragic turn of events, especially considering the relationship involved.
On the morning of October 31, 2025, emergency responders found Anita Avers, 80, with multiple stab wounds in her home, where she lived with Mock and her stepfather. An affidavit indicated that Mock had made statements expressing a belief that her mother was the devil, and she claimed to have killed her to “save herself.”
Mock’s stepfather shared with local media that she had experienced mental health issues, including delusions and depression. He also suggested the possibility of bipolar disorder, but later evaluations indicated that she might have schizoaffective disorder.
Interestingly, despite these claims of mental illness, a judge determined that Mock was competent to stand trial. In August, she pleaded guilty to murder.
Before her legal troubles, Mock had a background in journalism, having worked as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Prior to that, she was positioned as a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
