Greg Zaun Reflects on Career Challenges After Harassment Allegations
Following a substantial 16-season career in MLB, Greg Zaun continued in the arena as a broadcaster for another 12 years. Unfortunately, his broadcasting career came to a halt in 2017 when he was let go after multiple accusations of sexual harassment surfaced from female staff members.
Zaun has openly acknowledged that he crossed a boundary, stating, “I definitely made a mistake.” He added that he often thought, perhaps naively, that his interactions with women at work were acceptable. “I was under the impression that many conversations were okay,” he expressed, realizing now that it wasn’t just him who found them amusing; others were also affected by what took place.
In a candid admission, he remarked on the impact these events have had on his life. “My life has been turned upside down and ruined,” Zaun said, stressing that finding work in broadcasting is currently impossible for him. “There isn’t a lot of forgiveness in this world for someone like me,” he reflected, owning up to his mistakes.
He seems to have taken steps towards personal improvement, having sought treatment since the incidents occurred. Yet, despite his desire to return to broadcasting, he feels it’s unattainable right now.
Zaun did have a brief stint managing an independent team in Mexico after his broadcasting career ended, but recently he lost that position as well. This series of events showcases not only the personal battles he faces but also the larger discussions surrounding workplace behavior and accountability.
Throughout his career, Zaun played primarily as a backup catcher and posted a .252 batting average with a .732 OPS. His journey has taken him through several teams, including the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles, and Milwaukee Brewers, among others. Now, he navigates the complexities of life after a fall from grace, grappling with the consequences of his actions.
