Ex-MLB player Dustan Mohr sentenced for sex crimes against girl, 13

A former MLB player learned his fate Friday when he pleaded guilty to a sex crime against a teenage girl he had assigned to his softball practice.

Dustan Mohr, 47, was sentenced to nine years in prison in Indiana on three separate charges for sexually fondling a 13-year-old girl multiple times over a six-month period.

The girl’s family hired Ms. Mohr to provide softball lessons at the Strike Zone Training Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. According to WANE 15.

When the family chose a training facility to send their daughter to, they were told it would be a safe place for their children.

“This was not a safe place,” the girl’s father told Allen Superior Court in Fort Wayne.

During a training session, Mohr sexually fondled the girl, who told her she was only 13 years old.

Mohr is accused of having sexual contact with the girl in his car and using another phone so he could communicate with the minor and share private digital images, the outlet reported, citing court documents. He is also suspected of providing .

The girl’s father claimed that Mohr had spread lies to his daughter about the victim’s father, saying that he was a “terrible person who was mentally and emotionally abusive.”

Although Mohr had access to the girl’s cell phone and even blocked some parental controls, her protective father was still able to track her down to Mohr’s home and rescue her from rape. The paper reported that it had been completed.

The former outfielder was arrested on August 9, 2023, for crimes dating back to May 2023 or earlier.

In March, Mohr was charged with three felonies: child solicitation, child enticement, fondling/contacting a minor between the ages of 14 and 16 with intent to arouse, and sexual misconduct with a minor, according to inmate records. Pleaded guilty to five felonies.

The prison terms for each of the five felonies range from one to six years.

On Friday, Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gall sentenced Mohr to 15 years in prison, suspended for six years.

The victim’s family, who described Moll as a “monster”, had asked for a maximum sentence of 18 years in prison for Gall.

“A heavy sentence will give my daughter a chance to breathe again,” the girl’s father said, adding that his daughter “was robbed of her innocence by a 50-year-old woman who knew what she was doing.” .

Mr. Mohr was initially charged with four charges, three of which he pleaded guilty to, and the fourth of which was dissemination of material harmful to minors. According to 21 Alive News.

The girl, now 15, told Judge Gall that the abuse had left her isolated and depressed and that she was seeking medical attention.

The Mississippi State native was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the ninth round of the 1997 draft.

He made his professional debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2001 and played parts of three seasons before heading to San Francisco for the 2004 season.

From 2005 to 2007, Moll played in the major leagues and minor leagues for the Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Mohr ended his playing career in 2008 with Colorado, a AAA affiliate.
