Ex-NFL cornerback Buster Skrine allegedly on the run from police in Canada after disconnecting ankle monitor

Former NFL cornerback Buster Skrine is on the run from Canadian police after he allegedly disconnected from his ankle monitor and missed Monday’s court hearing.

The Daily Hive reported that Skrein was granted bail on April 9 on the condition that he wear a GPS ankle monitor.

Skrein is currently charged with failure to appear in court and failure to comply with a release order.

Skrein already faces 15 bank fraud charges. Canadian police have accused him of defrauding banks of more than $100,000 with fraudulent checks that he used to open accounts and withdraw money before they cleared.

Skrine, a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2011 NFL Draft, allegedly told the bank he was a “former NFL player.”

Police believe Skrein carried out this activity over a nine-month period before his arrest in 2023.

He faces four counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of making a false statement to produce money, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. He is charged with one count of possession.

Skrine spent 11 seasons in the NFL and earned more than $40 million. He last played in 2021, when he played for both the Tennessee Titans and San Francisco 49ers.

Skrine spent his first four NFL seasons with the Browns from 2011 to 2014, totaling 235 tackles, six interceptions, and 47 passes defensed in 64 games. He was then traded to the New York Jets, where he recorded 3 interceptions and 224 tackles in 59 games.

Skrine became a Chicago Bear in 2019 and spent two seasons with the team.
