Former NFL Player Arrested for Murder
Daron Lee, a former first-round draft pick for the New York Jets, was taken into custody earlier this week in Tennessee, where he faces charges of murder in connection to his girlfriend’s death.
At 31 years old, Lee was arrested by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. He has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, as per online records. Currently, he is being held without bail and is slated to appear in court on Wednesday.
The circumstances surrounding the arrest stem from the death of his girlfriend, whose identity has not been disclosed pending family notification by authorities.
According to reports, deputies were called to the residence after receiving notifications that CPR was being performed. Upon their arrival, first responders initiated life-saving efforts, but unfortunately, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Following an investigation, the sheriff’s office ruled her death as a homicide.
“Given the state of the victim and the conditions within the residence, detectives were dispatched,” the sheriff’s office stated. Their preliminary findings suggested that the victim’s death was indeed a homicide.
This isn’t the first time Lee has faced legal troubles. In 2023, he encountered issues with the law in Ohio regarding domestic violence against his mother and the mother of his two-year-old son. He eventually came to a plea deal resulting in a one-day jail sentence.
Lee, who was a standout at Ohio State University, was drafted by the Jets in 2016. He played there for three seasons but was suspended for four games due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.
In 2019, he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs, contributing to the Super Bowl-winning team that year, despite not playing in the game itself. Lee faced another suspension in 2020, yet later signed with the Buffalo Bills and participated in two games that season.
