Ex-NFL Player Marcellus Wiley Allegedly Taken Into Custody for Domestic Battery Offenses

Former NFL Player Arrested on Domestic Assault Charges

On July 4th, police apprehended former NFL defensive end Marcellus Wiley in Florida on allegations of domestic assault.

The arrest report states that at approximately 4:47 p.m., officers responded to the World Marriott in Orlando, where Wiley’s wife was identified as the victim. She allegedly requested that the authorities “remove her husband from the shared hotel room because she feels scared of him.” The affidavit mentions her assertion that Wiley “said he was going to kill her,” expressing her fears about his behavior.

Wiley’s wife contended that earlier that morning, he had pointed at her cheek forcefully with a finger. Their 7-year-old daughter was reportedly an observer of this incident. The child indicated to police that she heard her parents arguing but did not see Wiley make contact with her mother.

She also claimed that Wiley had a pattern of violence that had gone unreported and expressed her intention to divorce him upon his return to California.

The affidavit noted that despite her claims, Wiley’s wife did not seek medical assistance, and the deputies involved found no “visible injuries.” Additionally, the Orange County Department of Corrections revealed that Wiley was released from custody after posting a $1,000 cash bond the following Sunday.

Wiley denied these allegations, suggesting that his wife filed the complaint as part of her plans to divorce him. The police stated that the NFL player had made “intentional contact” with her against her will, leading to the charges of assault/domestic violence.

This arrest follows previous allegations from April, when four individuals accused Wiley of sexual assault, according to reports.

Throughout his 10-year NFL career, Wiley played for teams such as the Buffalo Bills, San Diego Chargers, and Jacksonville Jaguars. Post-retirement, he was associated with ESPN until 2018 and Fox Sports until 2022.
