Ex-Oregon receiver Ryan Pellum arrested for alleged pistol-whipping on Christmas

Former Oregon wide receiver Ryan Pelham, who recently entered the transfer portal, has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm.

The arrest was made on suspicion of pistol whipping.

Pelham was arrested Wednesday in Springfield, near the school's campus in Eugene, but the alleged incident occurred on Christmas Day in Pelham's hometown of Long Beach, California.

Pelham, 19, played one season at Oregon State and appeared in one game before entering the portal after the season.

He was able to take advantage of his redshirt and is still only a freshman.

Pellum's real name is Ryan Taylor, and he is the nephew of Oregon State's defensive coordinator and former linebacker at the school, Don Pellum.

Pelham was released on bail, but According to The Oregonian.

He is accused of hitting the unidentified victim in the head with a 9mm gun and then firing two shots into the air.

The victim required stitches, the report said.

Long Beach police issued an extradition warrant Tuesday, and Pelham was arrested the next day at his Springfield apartment.

An Oregon State spokesperson declined to comment, noting that the 5-foot-11 receiver no longer attends the school.

Oregon State lost its only game of the season, 41-21, to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

At the time of his arrest, Taylor told police he knew about the California warrant because he had received a phone call, but did not provide further details.

He is scheduled to return to court on January 23rd.
