Former Packers tight end Mark Chmura gushed about Green Bay's proposed game plan for Saturday's game against the 49ers in the NFC divisional round.
CH Mura, who spent his entire seven-year NFL career with the Packers, said Green Bay could “dominate and close out” the top-seeded 49ers by giving quarterback Brock Purdy a “15-yard penalty for a late hit.” He explained that it is possible to do this.
“The reason we won is because [1995] “The reason nobody gave us a chance in San Francisco is because we intimidated them,” said Chumura, 54. “Jen, Gabe, Chewie” Show 94.5 on ESPN Milwaukee.
“So, you guys think I'm crazy, but it's a 15-yard penalty. I don't condone this, but in a way I condone it in the playoffs. For the late hit on Brock Purdy. It's a 15-yard penalty.'' That's not a bad thing, as long as it's worth it.
“What I'm saying is, this is the mindset that goes into fighting. It's the opposite of hockey. What don't they do in playoff hockey? … They don't fight.”
“[In football]… Sometimes a 15-yard penalty is worth it to beat the living shit out of a guy early in the game. ”
Some 49ers fans, and even Packers fans, were shocked by Churma's comments.
“For all you Niners fans listening to this, this guy is literally the only person on the planet who would think this.” An X user wrote.
“From Packers fans to Niners fans who feel this: We don't agree with this guy.” another person wroteadding, “I'm looking forward to a clean match on Saturday.”
Nagamura stood by his comments on Thursday's show. And he said he doesn't care what 49ers fans think.
“Did you hear the word 'injured' at all in that clip?” Chimura, a Packers Hall of Fame member, said as co-host. ESPN reporter Jen Radaasked what he meant when he said “sometimes a 15-yard penalty is worth it” early in the game.
“So what I meant by that is I'm standing by. If you think I'm betraying San Francisco fans, you're crazy,” he said.
“Basketball technique can be good, even if the fans are annoyed. You'll get a call later.
“Go back to 1995. [the Packers] We played them… We went in there, we controlled them, we intimidated them and that carried over for years… So we owned you.
“You know why we owned you and blackmailed you? Because Dallas did the same thing to us in the '90s and we were blackmailed by them.” ..They need to get back to that to start turning this issue around
“This is football. I'm not saying play dirty, but that's part of it, that's the formula for winning — because Brock Purdy is their weakness, from my perspective. He's a hell of a player, but when he gets hit in a hurry, he turns the ball over.
“Why do you think I don't have social media? I don't give a voice to idiots like that.”
Drafted in the sixth round (157th overall) by the Packers out of Boston College in the 1992 NFL Draft, Cmura won the Super Bowl with Green Bay in 1997 and appeared in the Pro Bowl three times.

The Packers (9-8) are on the back foot heading into Saturday's matchup with the 49ers (12-5), the favorites to win Super Bowl LII.
The 49ers were eliminated from the playoffs last year when Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his right elbow in a 31-7 loss to the Eagles in the NFC title game.
In San Francisco, Green Bay will be broadcast on FOX on Saturday at 8:15pm ET.
