Former Packers Player Bill Ferrario Found Dead
Bill Ferrario, a former lineman for the Green Bay Packers, was discovered dead at his home in Wisconsin on Wednesday, just two days after turning 47.
The cause of his unexpected death has not been disclosed. Ferrario, who had a notable college career as a four-year starter at the University of Wisconsin, first gained recognition at West Scranton High School in Pennsylvania.
“Billie was a true gentleman,” shared Corey Joyce, a former quarterback at West Scranton. “He was a literal Eagle Scout. On the football field, he transformed into a different person. An incredible all-rounder.”
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Ferrario achieved All-Star honors during his junior and senior years of high school before committing to the University of Wisconsin in 1997, where he became a vital part of the offensive line.
From 1997 to 2000, he played in 50 games for the Badgers, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors in 1999 and second-team recognition in 2000.
His skills were crucial in helping propel Rondane, the Heisman Trophy winner in 1999, and contributing to Wisconsin’s consecutive Rose Bowl victories.
In the 2001 NFL Draft, Ferrario was selected in the fourth round by the Packers, where he played for two seasons. “It was truly an honor to be part of that offensive line and the Packers team,” Ferrario reflected in a 2013 interview. “As the kids grew, they handled it well, but their dad was blocking for one of the greatest quarterbacks, Brett Favre.”
Aside from the Packers, he also played for the then-Washington Redskins and the Carolina Panthers before retiring from football in 2005.
After his career on the field, Ferrario returned to Wisconsin, where he worked in real estate, medical sales, and charitable endeavors. He even launched his own sports and lifestyle podcast called “217 South Mills.”
However, Ferrario faced legal issues in recent years, including a drunken driving charge that resulted in probation last year.
He leaves behind two children. In his last social media post, he expressed immense pride in celebrating his daughter’s graduation, saying, “Words can’t describe how proud I am of my daughter on her graduation day. Watching her grow, work hard, and pursue her goals has been one of the greatest joys of my life.”
