Sturla Holm Rägglid’s Ex-Girlfriend Responds to His Confession
The former girlfriend of Norwegian Olympic medalist Sturla Holm Rägglid has spoken up following the biathlete’s public lament about his actions after an incident at the Winter Olympics on Tuesday.
Rägglid admitted to cheating on her just three months into their six-month relationship. In an interview with Norwegian media, his ex-partner didn’t seem inclined to give him another chance.
“It’s hard to forgive, even after declaring my love publicly. I never wanted to be in this situation, and it hurts,” she expressed. She mentioned that they still keep in touch and are aware of each other’s feelings regarding the matter.
Expressing gratitude, she said, “Thank you to my family and friends who have been there for me during this time, as well as to everyone who supported me without knowing me.” She chose to remain anonymous when speaking to the outlet.
Rägglid, who won a bronze medal in his event, reflected on what he called the biggest mistake of his life, visibly emotional during the press conference. “You may not have seen it today, but I wanted to share that six months ago, I met the love of my life. Three months ago, I made the worst decision by being unfaithful,” he stated.
He described his ex-girlfriend as “the gold medal of my life,” referencing the relay team’s success in winning a gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. Yet instead of joy, he was filled with sorrow after the race, shedding tears and seeking comfort from friends.
He explained his reasoning for sharing his personal story with the world: “I made that choice. We all make different choices, but this is part of my life now. By telling the world my mistake, perhaps she can understand how much she meant to me.” He also noted, “There are probably many who will see me differently now, but I only see her.”
In the wake of his interview, Rägglid appeared to regret discussing his personal life so openly, suggesting he might have overshadowed his teammate Johan Olaf Botten’s achievements.
Reflecting on his decisions, he said, “I’m relieved I didn’t take away from Johan’s moment. Maybe I was selfish in doing that interview. Honestly, I’m feeling a bit lost mentally. We’ll see where this goes from here.”
