Ex-Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer shares heartbreaking family loss

Brian Hoyer, a former quarterback for the Patriots, shared the devastating news that his sister-in-law passed away “suddenly and unexpectedly.” This has left his brother Brett to care for their four young daughters.

“It is with a heavy heart that I write this. On February 13th, my brother lost his wife, Carissa,” Hoyer, 40, expressed. He also shared a family photo on social media on Wednesday.

“She left behind her husband and four little girls—Josie, Laney, Ellie, and Hattie. In a very short time, he went from being a husband to a widower with four daughters under the age of 12,” he added.

“If you’re considering helping him and his daughters during this unimaginable time, we would be incredibly grateful. While we can’t erase their pain, together we can help share the burden. Your support can really make a difference. Please think about donating or just sharing this message. Every little bit counts,” he urged.

Brian and his brother Matthew have created a GoFundMe page, noting, “Carissa Ray Heuer was suddenly called to the Lord at the age of 36.”

No cause of death has been provided.

Brian Hoyer, who has spent 15 years in the NFL, last played for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. He had three stints with the Patriots, helping the team secure a Super Bowl title during the 2018 season, leading them to victory over the Los Angeles Rams in February 2019.

Throughout his career, he also played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers, and Indianapolis Colts.

Holding the record for starting with eight different NFL franchises, he ranks second in league history for that achievement.

Looking ahead, Brian will join the New England Local Production Broadcast Team alongside former Patriots players Devin McCourty, Jason McCourty, and Scott Zolak for the 2024 season.
