Brayden Fehoko Announces Retirement from Football

Brayden Fehoko, the former defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers and a national champion with LSU in 2020, has decided to retire at the age of 29. He made the announcement on Instagram, expressing a sense of fulfillment with his football journey.

Fehoko began his NFL career as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2020. In his retirement message, he reflected, “Sometimes in life you feel fulfilled, and for me it is now.” He added, “I’m 29 years old and couldn’t be happier with the journey this game has taken me on.”

In his heartfelt post, he also thanked his family for their unwavering support, stating, “You never let me quit, and more importantly, you never let me stop believing in myself.” He expressed gratitude to coaches, teammates, and others who helped him grow as a player.

Fehoko had a notable college career, playing two seasons at Texas Tech before transferring to LSU, where he played under former head coach Ed Orgeron. He contributed to the Tigers’ national championship win in 2020, wrapping up his college football tenure with 71 tackles and four sacks across 48 games.

After signing with the Chargers, he made his NFL debut in Week 12 against the Buffalo Bills and participated in 19 games over three seasons, recording 36 tackles. In 2023, he joined the Steelers but didn’t end up playing in any regular-season games; he was released shortly after signing in August.

Reflecting on his retirement, Fehoko mentioned, “I’m not a fan of full-length novels, but I’m happy to be retiring from this great sport of football.” He looks forward to spending time with his family as he closes this chapter of his life, though he will miss aspects like team meals and training camp. “Conditioning is a must,” he quipped, hinting at his next steps.
