Ex-San Francisco Mayor London Breed assigns a Bloomberg associate to an important position in the aim of securing a job, according to sources.

Former San Francisco Mayor London Breed found herself contemplating her career options after being ousted from her position at the age of 50. Her relationship with former billionaire mayor Michael Bloomberg was reportedly friendly; she had supported his unsuccessful presidential bid in 2020, and he subsequently donated over a million dollars to her unfortunate 2024 reelection campaign. It’s interesting how those alliances work in politics, isn’t it?

Cheryl, a former Republican who interned during the George W. Bush administration, was mentioned in connection with these developments. She pointed out, “I don’t think there was anything in the process that biased any particular candidate,” which is perhaps a way of keeping things neutral.

Two aides had plans for a confrontation at City Hall on December 3. One was spotted heading to Breed’s office but didn’t answer any questions regarding the appointment issues. Breed, understandably upset by the confrontation, called off the rest of her meetings for that day. It’s curious how one moment can shift the entire pace of a day, right?

As for the legality of Breed’s actions, it’s still somewhat murky. She had been advised by legal experts that her motivations for appointments were permissible. It’s always tricky figuring out where the lines are drawn in politics.

Breed’s search for new opportunities has garnered attention, even leading to a profile in the New York Times. She also took on a temporary role with the Aspen Institute as a policy and leadership advisor, which collaborates with Bloomberg Philanthropies for their annual CityLab Summit. The whole situation reminds us how transient political careers can be, and how quickly one can find themselves making fresh connections.
