Ex-Spurs executive shares Suns' significant trade request for Kevin Durant

Phoenix’s Trade Talks Involving Kevin Durant

It seems the Phoenix Suns might be in search of a deal—particularly regarding star player Kevin Durant.

Former Spurs executive Kirk Goldsbury mentioned that discussions between the Spurs and the Suns haven’t progressed much. The Suns were initially interested in trading for Durant but soon found the Spurs less than responsive.

Goldsbury noted, “My friends in San Antonio believe the asking prices are excessive.” He shared this insight on “The Zack Low Show,” which aired on Tuesday.

He also added, “In the initial talks, which included the No. 2 pick and player Stephon Castle, the communication has stalled somewhat.”

The Suns seem eager to explore options involving the 36-year-old Durant this offseason, though the perception around his value may vary widely among teams.

Reports indicate that the Suns might be asking for too much in this situation and could be compelled to adjust their demands. An Arizona news outlet discussed this notion on Tuesday.

Despite Durant’s status as an elite scorer, he faced injuries last season and has only recently signed his current contract.

Asking for Castle alongside other picks might feel steep for the Spurs, who are in the process of building a winning team around Victor Wembanyama.

The No. 2 draft pick could potentially be linked to either Dylan Harper or Ace Bailey. Castle has demonstrated solid stats, averaging about 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.1 assists while showing good defensive skills.

Reports from ESPN suggest that Durant is open to a trade with the Spurs, Rockets, or Heat, yet this doesn’t necessarily simplify matters for the Suns, as he may be directed toward a specific team.

He has reportedly expressed disinterest in moving to Minnesota.

With the NBA Draft set to take place next Wednesday, experts anticipate that trades involving 2025 draft picks will need to happen swiftly.

If a trade occurs, it would mark the end of Durant’s brief tenure with the Suns, during which the franchise only secured one playoff series victory but faced a first-round sweep in another and missed the postseason entirely this past year.
