Former President Trump's former press secretary Sarah Matthews said Monday that she stands by Vice President Harris to ensure she “never steps foot in the Oval Office again.”
matthews, interview MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell said speaking out against her former boss isn't enough. He added that it's important “to take the next step and show that it's okay to put partisanship aside and prioritize our country.”
“That's why I'm endorsing Kamala Harris. We need to do everything we can to make sure Donald Trump never steps foot in the Oval Office again. Because I believe that,” she told Mitchell.
Matthews attended an event in battleground Pennsylvania last week, along with former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) and fellow Trump White House officials Alyssa Farrar Griffin and Cassidy Hutchinson. did. All four women were once close aides to the former president, but have emerged as the Republican presidential nominee's most vocal critics.
Like Cheney, Matthews has expressed that he believes Trump is a threat to democracy, saying in late 2022: [the Jan. 6 Capitol riots] That was part of the reason I resigned. ”
When asked if he had faced any threats or harassment since leaving the Trump administration, Matthews acknowledged that he had. She said she calculated the risks and decided it was worth speaking out against the Republican candidate.
“I am aware of the harassment and backlash regarding my career prospects. [I] “You probably can't have a career in Republican politics, at least not with the current makeup of the Republican Party,” Matthews said Monday.
“But what was more frightening to me was the idea of a second term for Trump. If I were to sit silently on the sidelines of history and speak out, I would be able to use my voice to dissuade people. “If I had known what I could have done,” she added, “I would have never voted for him again.” “And for me it was easy math.”
