Former Stripper Reflects on Journey from the Sex Industry to Faith
Hannah Hirsh, who spent five years as a stripper, left that life after experiencing a transformative encounter with Jesus. Now, reflecting on her past, she feels at peace and aims to prevent other women from facing a similar path.
“The things I witnessed during that time were really dark. There was a lot of addiction— I even got caught up in it myself. You see drugs, alcohol, and even trafficking,” Hirsh shared.
She cautioned women who might think stripping is an easy way to quick cash, saying, “They don’t quite grasp the darkness that accompanies this lifestyle. It’s not just about making money; it leaves you feeling empty and compromises your morals.”
Hirsh elaborated on the misleading allure of the industry, saying, “The temptation to strip really stems from the glamorization of money and this lifestyle. Society presents it in an unrealistic way.” She emphasized that those who have been in that world know that, despite the money, it doesn’t lead to happiness.
Her career came abruptly to an end when clubs closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. That period of silence allowed her to connect with God, an experience she describes as pivotal in moving her away from that life.
“People often think this fast-paced lifestyle is aspirational, but I’ve learned that the true goal should be a relationship with Jesus and finding eternal life. Real wealth is rooted in God,” she remarked.
Hirsh pointed out how many women in the industry turn to drugs and alcohol daily to cope with their circumstances, adding, “It’s not empowering; it’s degrading.” She reflects on how quickly the money disappears, as does the illusion of power it brings.
Despite her past, Hirsh now goes into strip clubs with a mission. “I see those women and think they need God. I share what I believe He wants them to hear; my role is to plant the seed,” she explained.
After reconnecting with her faith, she established “Kept by Grace Ministry,” aiming to reach out and help women exit the sex industry. She challenges those who feel that strippers are beyond redemption. “Jesus associated with those deemed unworthy. No one is too far gone for God. Everyone can be redeemed,” she stated.
