Bria Hartley, a former standout at UConn, has returned to the Connecticut Sun after initially being drafted seventh overall in 2014. Though she last played in the WNBA in 2022, she rejoined the league this spring.
Now 32, Hartley helped her UConn team win two NCAA championships in 2013 and 2014, averaging around 13 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.6 rebounds over four seasons. Interestingly, she was teammates with Morgan Tuck, who is now the General Manager for the Sun.
Throughout her nine seasons in the WNBA, Hartley played in 207 games, posting averages of 7.9 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.2 rebounds. Her journey included time with the Washington Mystics, New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury, Indiana Fever, and the Connecticut Sun.
Her standout year was 2020 when she finished third in the league’s Women of the Year voting after a solid season with the Mercury, averaging 14.6 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 38.5%. In her last season with the Sun, she averaged 4.7 points in 22 games.
Last year, Hartley also played abroad in Türkiye and participated in the offseason’s Athlete Unlimited basketball league.
Connecticut Sun Faces Roster Cuts
At present, the Sun has 17 players in training camp but needs to cut at least five by the May 15 deadline. Recently, the team made cuts, letting go of Caitlin Bickle and Kamila Borkowska.
