Former British Police Officer Convicted of Wife’s Murder
A former police officer from the UK has been convicted of murdering his wife after a dispute over his undocumented immigration status. Brian McManus, 57, was found guilty of killing his 63-year-old spouse, Lucille Ann McManus, in 2023.
The Houston County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the verdict in a statement this week.
Authorities indicated that McManus attempted to evade responsibility for the murder, even shifting the blame to Lucille’s family. However, his efforts were unsuccessful. “McManus tried to cover up the murder, blaming the victim’s family and seeking to escape without consequences. He failed,” the DA’s office stated. “The truth prevailed due to the diligent work of the Warner Robins Police Department, forensic experts, and the prosecutors.”
The events unfolded on November 24, 2023, when police responded to a report of a suicide at the couple’s residence in Warner Robins, Georgia. Upon arrival, they discovered Lucille’s body on a bed, which had sustained a head injury. Reports suggest she was found unclothed.
Prosecutors argued that McManus attacked his wife after exiting the shower, eventually strangling her and then walking the dog as if nothing had happened.
McManus, who reportedly called 911 claiming he returned home to walk the dog and found Lucille unresponsive, made conflicting statements during the trial. His behavior raised suspicions, as he seemed more concerned about being seen as a suspect than about his wife’s fate.
Interestingly, he attempted to implicate his wife’s granddaughter and her boyfriend in the murder, although cell phone data contradicted this claim.
Security footage placed him near a drain where police later found a rubber mallet and a cell phone.
Investigators learned that the couple met on Tinder and were married within three months. McManus had prior disciplinary issues with the London Police Department, including allegations of sexual misconduct, and his first marriage ended due to domestic violence charges.
Authorities disclosed that McManus was involved with another woman and that Lucille discovered messages meant for her. Prosecutors indicated this led to a threat of exposure regarding their marriage being a facade.
Witnesses suggested that their marriage was primarily a strategy for McManus to secure a U.S. green card. “Miss Anne was a lonely woman whom the defendant manipulated for his gain,” remarked Assistant District Attorney Ada Duane. “He exploited the immigration system and brutally killed her when caught.”
District Attorney Eric Z. Edwards characterized the crime as a “calculated murder committed by an evil sociopath” who treated women as disposable. He emphasized that the authorities are committed to addressing domestic violence and holding abusers accountable.
The incident has sparked renewed efforts in the community to prevent domestic violence-related murders. “This case is a somber reminder of the ongoing risks,” the DA’s office commented.
A Tinder representative stated that user safety is a priority and that they take reports of crime seriously. They noted that they have a structured trauma information response protocol in place and the capability to assist law enforcement with ongoing investigations.
Fox News Digital reached out to the Houston County District Attorney’s Office for comment but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
