A former employee of Voice of America has been arrested following allegations of threatening to kill Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, along with her staff and family. The Justice Department reported that Seth Jason, a 64-year-old from Edgewater, Maryland, made at least eight threatening calls using government-funded communication systems between October 2023 and January of this year.
In one message directed at Republican lawmakers in Georgia, prosecutors noted, “We look forward to your book signing. We are all armed and ready to take care of you.”
Another message reportedly stated, “We’re coming after you and your staff and we’re locked and loaded. We’ll take you all out.”
“I have an AK-47. I’m going to get one between my eyes. Bum, Bum, Bum,” Jason was quoted as saying during a call.
The federal authorities described these calls as being made from multiple phone lines linked to studios and control rooms. Jason has been in detention by both U.S. Capitol Police and the Anne Arundel County Police Department since 2016. The AACPD confirmed the arrest of one of their volunteers, noting they are no longer associated with the agency.
According to his LinkedIn, Jason started his position at VOA in 2001. Earlier this year, President Trump issued an executive order to shut down the station, branding it the “Radical American Voice.”
“You are threatening civil servants and you will face the full force of the law,” Interim U.S. Attorney for D.C. Janine Piro stated in a press release, adding that there would be “no mercy or excuse.”
Jason faces four charges, which include threats against family members and federal officials, making threatening interstate communications, and harassing anonymous communications. If found guilty, he could face up to 27 years in prison.
