Worship Pastor Arrested on Multiple Charges in Kentucky
Starting out in a new church can be a big step, where we often seek out safe and supportive relationships. The well-being of a pastor, an approachable congregation, and stable leadership are typically essential for a ministry to thrive. Recently, however, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, found itself dealing with a distressing situation: their worship pastor was arrested on several charges of sexual assault involving a minor.
David A. Rogers, 40, from Utica, was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police on February 16, 2026, and was promptly dismissed from his role. Following an ongoing investigation into the allegations of a sexual relationship with a juvenile, Rogers faces serious charges including third-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and first-degree sexual abuse. The church community reacted with sadness and confusion upon hearing the news.
In response to the situation, church leaders issued a statement emphasizing their serious approach to allegations of sexual assault, and they urged the congregation to pray regarding the ongoing legal matter. “Effective immediately, the employee will be terminated and barred from attending church-sponsored events,” the statement read.
Reports suggest that Rogers used his “position of special trust” to maintain relationships with minors under the age of 12. As a worship leader, he allegedly exploited his authority. During his interview with authorities, reports state that he admitted to the criminal acts he’s being charged with.
Currently, Rogers is being held on a cash bail of $75,000, with an arraignment set for February 18, 2026. The initial complaint came to light in January 2026, but it is said that the problematic behavior reportedly started around 10 to 11 years prior and continued for four to five years.
The church leaders expressed their shock over the circumstances and reminded their members of their commitment to keeping everyone safe. “We understand that this can cause pain and may bring up past traumas for survivors of sexual assault. Please know that we are praying for you and for your continued healing.” They reiterated that the physical, mental, and emotional safety of everyone, especially children, is of utmost priority for the community.
