Ex-WWE superstar Natalie Eva Marie talks about troubled past, addiction, maintaining her sobriety

former WWE Superstar Natalie Eva Marie She dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player, but bad decisions led her down a dark path of addiction and alcohol abuse.

In an interview with “Outkick the Morning” Marie spoke with host Charlie Arnolt about her past struggles and the pivotal moment she believes changed the trajectory of her life.

“I felt like I was just born out of the womb, like an alcoholic, a total addict,” the former professional wrestler said Thursday.

marie played soccer Growing up in California, she explained that she had received scholarships from several small schools during her senior year, but eventually decided to “hang up the spikes” due to an injury.

She briefly returned to the sport, then retired. Eventually, she decided to transfer to California State University, Fullerton, where she tried out as a walk-on.Marie made the team, but it’s all thanks to her. NCAA eligibility, She missed her chance.

“It was a tough time in my life because it was all about sports.”

“That’s when things got a little shaky for me in the sense that I started drinking for the first time and started down that path.”

Marie, 39, said she ended up in trouble with the law and ultimately had to serve time in prison.

“I got into a lot of trouble right away. My parents had already done so much for me, so I didn’t want them to try to bail me out. So I ended up… , I quit because I couldn’t pay the money.” Fines after getting multiple DUIs and things like that, because that’s where it leads me – I finished my final year right after graduating from college. He ended up spending three months in prison. ”

Marie said she got sober at age 23 with the help of her brother, but relapsed three years later. She then, seemingly out of the blue, got sober at age 28, got a job with WWE, and met her husband Jonathan Coyle.

“Because it’s hard when you stay on your path and when you surrender and let God take over and take control. Anyone who is suffering or has a loved one who is suffering. It’s very hard to watch someone go on without getting better.” You can’t destroy their life when you know they have so much potential. ”

Marie said she still practices a traditional 12-step program and sticks to her usual routine.

“I have a set routine that I do every day. I don’t follow it perfectly, but I like to pray, meditate, spend time with God in the morning, then work out and do everything.” Those things are spending the day journaling and writing. ”
