Yankees’ Boone Honors Berti with ALCS Championship Ring

Before the game against the Cubs on Saturday, Aaron Boone took a moment to meet John Berti outside the visiting dugout, presenting him with the ALCS Championship ring from last season.

Berti expressed his feelings about the experience, saying, “It’s something you strive for—to reach and win the World Series. Although we didn’t finish it, the experience was fantastic.” He added, “Being part of an amazing organization like the Yankees was just great.” This came just before the Yankees faced a tough 5-2 loss.

Acquired from the Marlins late in spring training in 2024 due to DJ LeMahieu’s injury, Berti faced his own challenges, appearing in only 25 regular-season games due to calf issues.

He did, however, make a return to the active roster during the postseason, starting several games at first base, before suffering another injury while running in the World Series.

“The regular season was definitely tough,” Berti remarked. “The Yankees saw value in me and made the trade, so I really wanted to contribute as much as I could.” The 35-year-old showed determination despite his struggles.

Reflecting on his time with the team, Berti said, “Sure, I missed a lot of time, but I believe everything happens for a reason. It was a great time with the coaches and the guys.” He also noted, “It didn’t turn out the way I expected, but sometimes that’s just how it goes.”

After being tendered in November, Berti signed with the Cubs and had made three postseason appearances at first base for the Yankees while Anthony Rizzo was sidelined with a broken finger.

Unfortunately, Berti was removed from the World Series roster against the Dodgers due to a hip flexor injury he sustained while scoring a go-ahead run in the ninth inning of ALCS Game 4 against Cleveland.

“I’ll always cherish those victories and the moments celebrating with the team,” Berti shared. “Knowing I had a chance to compete in the World Series, especially against Cleveland, was incredible. It was an unforgettable experience, and I appreciate Aaron for catching up with me.”
