Lance Lynn Backs Aaron Boone Amid Yankees Struggles

Aaron Boone has faced significant criticism lately due to the Yankees’ ongoing challenges. However, former pitcher Lance Lynn has come to the defense of his former manager.

“If there’s an issue, he’s definitely addressing it,” Lynn said during an episode of the “Foul Territory” podcast on Monday. “He’s not one to share too much with the media and he certainly won’t disclose everything happening in the clubhouse. Boone has an impressive playing background and understands how things operate. What goes on in the clubhouse should stay there.”

Boone has taken some heat from fans, especially after a recent game where he was perceived as not holding players accountable. Still, Lynn believes the manager is actively working on solutions behind the scenes.

“He’s handling the problems with the players, and trust me, they are addressing the issues,” Lynn stated. “But they won’t share that with everyone. The more you say in New York, the more trouble it can create.”

Reflecting on his own 15-year MLB career, Lynn played under Boone with the Yankees back in 2018 after a mid-season trade.

Currently, the Yankees find themselves in a tough spot, enduring a four-game losing streak and posting a bleak record of 8-19 over their last 27 games, placing them third in the American League East.

Despite these struggles, Lynn expressed that it wouldn’t benefit Boone to publicly criticize his players during press interactions.

“All you get is stories about him blowing up at people, and that’s not helpful. There’s a lot of speculation coming out of the clubhouse, which creates more problems than it resolves,” Lynn remarked. “The players are aware of what’s not working and know how to fix it, but the pressure from fans and the media to know the details can be overwhelming.”

“And we all get that the best teams keep their business private. It makes for better team dynamics when nobody knows too much,” he added.

Lynn has carved out a solid career in baseball, earning an All-Star appearance both in 2012 with the Cardinals and in 2021 with the White Sox, in addition to winning the World Series with St. Louis in 2011.
