Residents of Springfield, Ohio, told Blaze News that Haitians living in the area have difficulty assimilating into the local culture and, in some cases, can even be intimidating towards women.
A person who works at a local Walmart confirmed reports from other residents that Haitians were causing disruption at nearby retail stores.
“They're stalking women in parking lots.”
“There were instances of feces on the floor and children urinating all over themselves for no reason,” the worker, who requested anonymity for fear of retaliation from his employer, told Blaze News. . [in the aisles]. ”
“I've seen people changing clothes in the middle of the aisle,” the worker said. “They take the child’s diaper off, roll it up and change it into jeans.”
Local residents previously told Blaze News that some women have reported being followed around the store by Haitian men. Employees also confirmed similar accidents.
“A customer came up to me and said that a Haitian man was acting creepy towards female customers,” the employee said. “As I was walking outside, I saw one of the Haitian men threatening the cashier.”
According to employees, there have been instances where Haitian children have been left unattended inside the store.
“A Haitian child was found in the infant clothing department, but the mother could not be found. The child did not speak any English,” the employee explained. “We were going around asking people if their children were missing, and it wasn't until the police were called that someone was missing.” [who] They had already said no and changed their mind and said yes. [their] child. “
David Cook, owner and operator of a plastic lumber store in Springfield, recently told Rosas that Haitian nationals have not been properly assimilated into the community.
“When you encounter something like this at Walmart or a retail store, they don’t assimilate the behavior and etiquette and they kick you out. [of] “As Americans, we're used to social behavior and there are certain norms whether you live on the East Coast, the West Coast or the Midwest,” he said. – They have to know how to act and behave, but they are not used to it. ”
Former journalist Bill Monaghan told Rosas that local residents have cultural concerns about the influx of Haitian nationals into the area.
He said, “This is a more misogynistic kind of culture.”
“Women have reported being followed by Haitians inside the store and becoming so nervous that they had to ask for an escort to get out of their cars,” Monaghan said.
He said some Haitians tend to invade others' personal space and behave in an intimidating manner.
“I've seen it, and we don't have that attitude here. Walking around the store blaring their cell phones, eating fruit out of trash cans, throwing trash around. 'I don't throw trash on the ground and relieve myself in public,' Monaghan explained. “Again, it's not all Haitians, but many of them don't seem to care at all about the social norms of the region, so this situation is pretty tough.”
After several calls to the Springfield Police Department went unanswered, the department told Blaze News in an email: If you have a media request, we will contact you as soon as possible. ”
Walmart declined a request for comment.
