Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-Deremer has saved millions of taxpayer dollars by cutting grants to foreign countries, similar to the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Secretary Chavez Deremar was sworn in a week ago and has already made progress in cutting the Ministry of Labor (DOL) budget by cutting grants to tens of millions of dollars in foreign countries to expand labor policy.
Breitbart News is exclusively learning that the Labor Bureau sent taxpayer dollars abroad. The cuts Delimer has made so far include:
- Cutting $1.5 million grants to increase transparency and accountability for Uzbekistan's cotton industry
- Eliminate $7 million grants to promote climate change policies and practices in Brazil, Chile, South Africa and Colombia
- Scrapping $18 million in grants to promote collective bargaining in Brazil, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Indonesia and Guatemala
- Cutting down $1.5 million grants to improve compliance with Georgia workplace standards
Many of these grants are similar to USAID grants, which have sent millions of dollars to foreign governments, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other groups.
Cancelled foreign grants to follow Secretary Chavez Deremar's declaration was declared on the first day as head of the Department of Labor, where departments would move to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse.
In a note to executive staff and agency managers within DOL last week, she identified opportunities to reduce “wasteful contract spending” and ordered a budget review recommending ways to “reduce redundancy and underperforming employees.”
“Adhering to the principles of financial responsibility and efficiency can make meaningful differences in the lives of millions of Americans,” she wrote in her notes.
“At the president's direction, the Labor Department has already saved US taxpayers $125 million, and this important job must continue to eradicate waste, fraud and abuse,” she argued, saying many of these contracts include discriminatory diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) training and consulting.
“Thank you for working with us on behalf of President Trump and for our dedication to our mission to welcome a new golden age of economic prosperity,” she wrote to staff in a memo. “We look forward to working together to make a positive impact on the lives of millions of workers and their families.”
