Exclusive: Rep. Michael Cloud introduces bill bolstering DOGE’s mission

On Thursday, Republican Rep. Michael Cloud of Texas introduced a bill that would streamline efforts to reduce government waste and improve efficiency, obtained exclusively by Blaze News.

The DOGE-aligned bill, known as the Federal Agency Sunset Commission Act, seeks to hold the government accountable by establishing bipartisan commissions to evaluate the efficiency of various agencies. Through the proposed review process, the commission would advise agencies on how to promote fiscal responsibility and eliminate agencies that are not fiscally responsible.

It's clear that there is an appetite in Congress to improve government efficiency beyond DOGE, and the cloud is at the forefront of that effort.

“DOGE is leading efforts to reduce government inefficiency, waste, and bloat, and the Federal Agencies Sunset Commission Act will strengthen that mission,” Cloud told Blaze News. “For too long, the federal bureaucracy has operated unchecked, growing in size while its output has diminished.”

In 2024, the federal deficit will exceed $36 trillion for the first time in American history. Remarkably, there are over 1,000 unauthorized government programs draining hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars. According to to the Congressional Budget Office.

This is the kind of government inefficiency and reckless spending that Cloud has vowed to overhaul with landmark legislation.

“American families live within their means, and Washington should do the same,” Cloud told Blaze News. “By systematically and regularly reviewing federal agencies, this law ensures that the government works for taxpayers, not the other way around.”

Since first being elected in 2018, Cloud has established himself as a fiscal hawk in the House. Mr Cloud was one of several MPs who voted for Mr Johnson despite having reservations following the recent spending battle. In a letter written by several Republicans, including Cloud, lawmakers cited fiscal concerns about Congress' spending trajectory.

Among other demands, this letter claim that “Any adjustment measures would reduce spending and deficits in real terms with respect to the dynamic score of tax and spending policies under recent growth trends.”

It's clear that there is an appetite in Congress to improve government efficiency beyond DOGE, and the cloud is at the forefront of that effort.
