On Saturday night, LAFC’s offensive prowess shone brightly at BMO Stadium. They delivered a stunning performance, demolishing Orlando City 6-0, scoring five of those goals in under 40 minutes during the first half.
If you missed it—or even if you didn’t—let’s take a look at how those six goals unfolded.
7 minutes — Own goal by David Brekalo (1-0 LAFC)
LAFC had several opportunities leading up to the first goal. Son Heung-min delivered a powerful, low cross that Orlando defender David Brekalo inadvertently redirected into his own net.
20 minutes — Dennis Bouanga (2-0 LAFC)
LAFC’s first official goal came from a turnover. Son sprinted down the field and sent a ball to Dennis Bouanga, who managed to chip it past his former teammate, Orlando’s goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.
23 minutes — Dennis Bouanga (3-0 LAFC)
The floodgates really opened here. Just three minutes later, Orlando’s misplay outside the 18-yard box led to a rapid counter by LAFC. Son fed Bouanga again, who faked a defender and scored with a shot that hit the far post before finding the net. Orlando looked bewildered, unable to regain control as LAFC intensified their pace.
28 minutes — Dennis Bouanga (4-0 LAFC)
Bouanga completed the third quickest hat trick in MLS history, doing so in just eight minutes. He and Son executed a clever give-and-go, allowing Bouanga to fire a shot past Crepeau and beneath the crossbar. After the goal, LAFC players celebrated by imitating Mario Kart, laughing in the aftermath of their scoring spree.
“Now when we travel, we play Mario Kart. That was the purpose of the celebration,” Bouanga remarked with a grin post-match.
Bouanga’s three goals within the first 28 minutes placed him among the fastest hat tricks in MLS history.
“We had so much space today,” Bouanga noted. “Sonny and I took advantage of that. Whenever we had an opportunity, we went for it, and it paid off.”
40 minutes — Sergi Palencia (5-0 LAFC)
Sergi Palencia enjoyed a successful moment as well. He timed his run perfectly to receive a pass from Son, who had maneuvered well toward the end line. Palencia then sent the ball crashing into the goal, marking his first of the season and contributing to a remarkable five-goal tally in just 40 minutes.
In this match, Son also made history by being the first player in LAFC’s history to notch four assists in a single half. He now joins Lionel Messi, who has achieved a similar feat, as one of only two players in MLS to record four assists in a first half.
“It was impressive,” said LAFC head coach Marc dos Santos. “I didn’t realize Messi had done it too. Messi just does everything.”
70 minutes — Tyler Boyd (6-0 LAFC)
When Tyler Boyd found himself in the box at the 70-minute mark, he sealed the match with a strong header from Jacob Schaffelburg’s cross, bringing the total to a club-record sixth goal.
This victory solidified LAFC’s status as the only undefeated team in the MLS, extending their record to ten unbeaten games. They have also impressively kept opponents off the scoreboard for six consecutive matches.
