Duchess Meghan’s Emmy Nomination Sparks Mixed Reactions
Duchess Meghan’s Netflix series, “With Love, Meghan,” has received an Emmy nomination, which many experts find quite unexpected.
Just months after the show was canceled, the Duchess shared her excitement on Instagram. She wrote, “A big congratulations to the amazing staff, producers, and team behind ‘With Love, Meghan’ on Netflix. Nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Series!”
But some have expressed surprise at the nomination, especially given the show’s underwhelming audience response. Royals expert Hilary Fordwich commented on this, noting the show’s lack of consistent viewership. “It’s somewhat puzzling how polarizing Meghan has become and how the show hasn’t really drawn in viewers consistently,” she said.
“Given her show’s very weak commercial traction and appallingly low sustained ratings, it seems unjustified for it to win such an award,” Fordwich added, suggesting that the nomination might serve more as a publicity tool than a true recognition of quality.
She also mentioned that this nomination would likely be leveraged by Markle in future projects. “This is just a public relations victory and far from a concrete media deal,” Fordwich stated.
Kinsey Schofield, who hosts a YouTube show, echoed similar sentiments. She believes the nomination provides Markle with something tangible to present in meetings with studios and advertisers. “Hollywood values third-party validation,” she remarked. Still, she pointed out that one nomination doesn’t offset years of inconsistent success.
Schofield also noted that the industry values consistent viewer attraction, timely project delivery, and profitability, and those aspects remain a challenge for Markle’s brand. Interestingly, a TikTok parody of the show gained more attention than “With Love, Meghan,” which raises questions about its cultural impact.
Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, commented on the implications of the nomination, regardless of the outcome. “She will always be introduced as ‘Emmy-nominated actress and lifestyle personality Meghan Markle,'” he noted, emphasizing that this recognition could help Markle’s brand, even if it doesn’t translate into a strong position within the industry.
Markle’s Emmy nomination does hold some power in shaping perceptions. “It gives her supporters a credible talking point,” Schofield pointed out, even though it might not significantly change her standing in Hollywood.
However, it’s crucial not to overstate the significance of a single nomination, as Eldridge suggested. “It’s like saying anyone can be called ‘an author’ just because they’ve published a book, but not all authors make bestseller lists.”
Overall, while “With Love, Meghan” faced criticism upon its debut—earning only a 38% critics’ score—it still attracted enough viewers for a second season, ultimately leading to this Emmy nomination. The results will be revealed at the Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30, 2026.
