Explosive device goes off in Monaco, seriously wounding 2 people: reports

Authorities in Monaco and France are reportedly on the lookout for a man believed to have set off an improvised explosive device on Monday night, which left several individuals injured, two of whom are in serious condition.

The blast took place just before 9 PM local time, near the entrance of a residential building in central Monaco. According to Reuters, which cited France’s Figaro newspaper, surveillance footage showed a man leaving a backpack at the explosion site moments before it occurred.

Monaco’s Minister of State, Christophe Millmann, shared with BFM television that two of the injured suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

“An event like this has never been seen in the principality before,” Millmann noted.

French emergency teams rushed to the scene to assist. Both French and Monaco officials have initiated a combined operation to locate the suspect, as stated by the French Interior Ministry.

BFM TV also reported Monaco’s attorney general describing the explosive device as a “parcel bomb.”

Eric Ciotti, the mayor of Nice, condemned the incident in a post on X. He expressed his sympathy, stating, “The attack that took place tonight is a tragedy for Monaco. My thoughts are with the victims, their families, and the people of Monaco. My full support goes to the security forces and emergency services involved.”

Alexandra Masson, the mayor of Menton, also expressed her support for Monaco, saying her thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones, and extended her deepest gratitude for those helping in this difficult time.

Fox News Digital has yet to receive any comments from Monaco’s police regarding the ongoing situation.
