‘Extremely intoxicated’ teen shoots entire family dead, then calls 911 to confess to quadruple murder: Police

A New Mexico boy drunkenly called 911 after shooting his entire family and confessed to the quadruple murders, local police said.

Around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, the Valencia County Sheriff's Office reportedly received a 911 call from 16-year-old Diego Leyva. The boy allegedly told a 911 dispatcher that he had killed his entire family.

“I never thought something like this would happen and that Diego was capable of something like this.”

New Mexico State Police announced. statement“When deputies arrived, Diego exited the residence with his hands up and was extremely intoxicated.”

Leyva was reportedly taken into custody without incident.

When officers entered the home, they found Leonardo Leyva, 42, Adriana Bencomo, 35, Adrian Leyva, 16, and Alexander Leyva, 14, with suspected gunshot wounds. I found him dead.

Police found a handgun on the kitchen table.

Leyva was taken to a nearby hospital for detoxification and was booked into the Albuquerque Juvenile Justice Center around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Leyva is charged with four counts of first-degree murder. Investigators with the New Mexico State Police Bureau of Investigation and Crime Scene Team began investigating the motive.

One of the victims, Bencomo, was an active volunteer firefighter with the Rio Fire Department for many years.

“Our brothers and sisters at the Rio Fire Department are, as expected, shocked and saddened by this loss,” the statement said. “We appreciate the community's continued support. Further information will be released as it becomes available.”

The suspect's former teacher said he was in complete disbelief about the incident.

“I never thought something like this would happen and that Diego would be capable of something like this,” Vanessa LaGrange said. guardian. “Everyone is in shock.”

LaGrange said students plan to wear black at school to honor the victims.
