During a portion of an interview with NBC News that aired on Monday’s “NBC Nightly News,” President Joe Biden said, “I’ve never seen anything like this before, when you’re driving through certain rural areas of this country and you’ve got people holding up big Trump signs with ‘F Biden’ in the middle and little kids standing there with their middle finger up. That’s just incendiary.”
Moderator Lester Holt asked whether the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, a 2024 Republican presidential candidate, changed the course of the race.
Biden responded that he didn’t know and no one else knew.
Holt then asked if he’d thought about how the assassination attempt might change the trajectory of the race.
Biden responded: “No. I’m more concerned about two things than where this goes. One, what’s going on with his health, is it safe? And two, what’s going to happen going forward in terms of how the president and vice president and former president and new vice president get coverage. I’ve never seen a situation where you drive through certain rural parts of the country and people are holding up big Trump signs with ‘F Biden’ in the middle and little kids standing there with their middle finger up. This is just inflammatory. And that animosity is totally different from saying I really disagree with the way Trump handled taxes, the way he wants a $5 trillion tax cut for the very rich next time. It’s not focused on working class people.”
