Max Verstappen in on pole so, in theory, everything is as it should be. There are, however, a few issue swirling around the Red Bull garage. Papa Verstappen and Christian Horner do not see eye-to-eye at the moment, making the backdrop to this grand prix more fun. Naturally, Verstappen will probably win this race and another title this season but that will only be part of the story.

Important Events
Lap 58/71: Norris is back behind him, with the lead at around 0.33s, and Verstappen in defensive mode.
Lap 57/71: Verstappen says there’s no grip, Norris is so close he can smell the uncertainty.
Lap 56/71: Verstappen is back up by a second and may have won this mini-battle for now – Norris will catch him with the fastest lap.
Lap 55/71: Norris was close behind him but was held off by Verstappen and at Turn 4 he decided not to overtake again.
Norris accused Verstappen of reacting to a move he made in the braking zone. Spicy.
Lap 54/71: Norris has cut the lead to under a second and will be confident once he gets in the DRS zone.
Lap 53/71: Norris is closing in on Verstappen’s lead and the British driver thinks he has a slight chance here, so he uses the DRS on his rival and presses the gas.
Lap 52/71: Verstappen is back on the track and still leading on the medium compound tyre, as is Norris. Does this mean anything?
Verstappen is just 1.8 seconds ahead of Norris after a poor and slow pit stop, and Verstappen is furious. This could actually make for an interesting development. They both have to get through the traffic.
Lap 51/71: Verstappen is really unhappy with the tyres. Time to pit, Max? Yes!
Norris also seems to be struggling with the tires. The top time is not good. Norris follows Verstappen.
Lap 50/71: Leclerc has moved up to 11th place and is in the running to finish in the top 10. Can he avoid a fourth pit stop? That will be difficult.
Lap 49/71: Russell’s tyre change paid off immediately, as he recorded his fastest lap of any Grand Prix to date.
Lap 48/71: Sainz appears to have pitted at a crucial time in the race.
“I can’t take it much longer,” laments Verstappen.
Lap 47/71: Russell took to the track on hard tyres but is currently in sixth place, knowing his rivals will have to pit.
Lap 46/71: Albon becomes the latest driver to receive a five-second penalty for crossing the line at pit entrance.
Russell is struggling for grip at the moment and heads into the pits for the second time.
Lap 45/71: Norris continues to hound Verstappen while also trying to overtake Leclerc, who has been shrinking his lead recently and may have a chance.
Lap 44/71: Gasly pitted for medium tyres and celebrated a few strong laps.
It’s worth mentioning that Hamilton still has to serve his five-second penalty.
Lap 43/71: Hamilton is holding on to fifth place ahead of Piastri, who will likely think he has a good chance of beating Hamilton.
Lap 42/71: Alpine will be pleased to have one of their drivers finish in the top ten.
Norris is also worried about the tyres overheating. Nobody is happy with the tyres at the moment.
Lap 41/71: Gasly and Ocon were fighting each other hard, reaching eighth and ninth place after the Frenchman stepped on the gas.
Lap 40/71: Verstappen says his tyres are “really bad” – he’s still running well up front so it couldn’t be that either, but is it?
Lap 39/71: Leclerc has fallen back to 17th but is said to still be able to climb up to 10th and it will be exciting to see how he goes about achieving this, especially with another pit stop likely.
Lap 38/71: Norris is second, eight seconds behind Russell, who has had no issues so far and will be very happy with the result if he can hold on.
Lap 37/71: Alonso will receive a 10-second time penalty and will then have his tyres changed.
Piastri is chasing Hamilton in fifth place, which could be the most intriguing battle between the top six.
Lap 36/71: The race is halfway through and it’s playing out as everyone expected: Verstappen is smiling at the front.
Alonso is overtaken by Ocon and Gasly for 13th place, and the Spaniard pits.
Lap 35/71: Hamilton may have some damage to his floor, which will frustrate him further after what has been a slightly frustrating race so far.
Lap 34/71: Norris set a new fastest lap of his career, he knows that speed will do that.
Leclerc pits for the third time!
Lap 33/71: Ocon and Gasly are enjoying a battle in the Alps in 12th and 13th place, with contact likely to occur as they fight for position.
Lap 32/71: Everyone has pitted, with Leclerc and Sargent already in second place.
Perez was given a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Lap 31/71: The wind is picking up and making things a bit more difficult for the drivers, who have to keep their balance in the gusts of wind.
Lap 30/71: Leclerc is picking up speed and Ferrari believes he can score some points if he carries on like this. He is currently 18th.
Lap 29/71: Verstappen appears to be left with the issue and is leaving it to his team to analyse.
Lap 28/71: Verstappen appears to be having gear problems and has been told to remain in seventh place.
Lap 27/71: As you may know, Verstappen is leading the pack.

Lap 26/71: Piastri pitted and rejoined in sixth place.
Hamilton apologised for the booking and said he knows it was his fault.
The stewards are investigating Verstappen’s release and whether it was unsafe when he jumped in front of Norris.
Lap 25/71: Norris is not happy that Verstappen came out of the pit stop right in front of him. Was it safe? Someone can tell me.
Alonso received a 10-second penalty for hitting Zhou.
Lap 24/71: Verstappen, Russell and Norris pitted, coming out behind Piastri, who had not yet pitted.
From what I’ve heard, Hamilton received a five-second penalty for careless behaviour.
Lap 23/71: Hamilton is under investigation for crossing the white line during a pit stop – will he be penalised for a momentary lapse in concentration?
Lap 22/71: The stewards will investigate the incident between Zhou and Alonso.
Hamilton pits and comes back on the hard tyre. Is it worth the risk?
Lap 21/71: Verstappen is running smoothly at the front, and the cameras barely bother to check on him because everyone knows how it’s going to end.
Alonso pushes Zhou off the track. “What on earth is he doing?” the Sauber driver laments.
Lap 20/71: Ocon pitted and after a brilliant routine session with his mechanics came off the track in 17th place.
Lap 19/71: The two Haas cars easily overtake Zhou, Magnussen and Hulkenberg are keen to race here.
Nobody seems happy with the hard tyres, will everyone want to go with the medium tyres?
Lap 18/71: Leclerc is last and looks set to be overtaken quickly by Verstappen – not a good day for the Ferrari driver.
Lap 17/71: It looks like Leclerc will need to make a second pit stop, hopefully to sort out the issues from the earlier contact, and he returns to the track on medium tyres.
