F1 drivers advocate for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to remain on the schedule

As the Formula 1 teams gather at the iconic Imola for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix this weekend, several compelling narratives are taking shape.

One of the most significant discussions centers on the future of this race.

This marks the end of the current agreement for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix with Formula 1, and during Thursday’s Media Day, numerous drivers advocated for its continuation on the calendar.

Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was among the most vocal supporters.

“I enjoy visiting this place. There are several historic tracks on the calendar that are perfect for racing,” Stroll remarked. “This is one of those. It would be a shame to lose it. However, with 25 races and so many countries eager to host, it’s tricky to accommodate everyone. I really want to keep coming here.”

“It’s a fantastic circuit, for sure. I’ve only raced here once, but it’s definitely climbing the ranks of my favorites. Having two races in the same country doesn’t quite add up anymore. Then you’ve got Monza as the second race in Italy, and honestly, it’s tough to overlook that one. If not, people might get a bit rowdy!”

“We need to tread carefully to preserve our history. With Zandvoort leaving and the Spa rotation, I have my concerns. We should be cautious not to lose these classic tracks.”

Franco Colapinto has also expressed his fondness for the historic circuit, adding to the week’s narrative.

“I absolutely love Imola and Italy. I have wonderful memories tied to this place,” Colapinto shared. “My debut in Formula 1 was at Monza, and now I’m here at Imola. There’s something special about this atmosphere.”

“We all enjoy coming here. The history it brings to the sport is remarkable. This track is fantastic, especially in a Formula 1 car. There’s a particular corner that captures that old-school vibe, making it a thrill to race.”

Today, track activities are in full swing at Imola, as the first two practice sessions take place ahead of Saturday’s qualifying round for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Whether this will be the last Emilia Romagna Grand Prix remains uncertain, but drivers certainly wish to see it remain part of the schedule.
