FAA is now hiring people severe intellectual disabilities

Given the ever-growing list of aviation issues in recent years, one would think that the FAA, a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Transportation, would place more emphasis on improving aircraft safety.

Unfortunately, however, the agency is more focused on DEI programs.

“Why should we worry about a Japanese domestic plane being forced to turn back after a crack was discovered in its cockpit window?'' Glenn Beck asks wryly.

“The Federal Aviation Administration is currently prioritizing hiring people with severe intellectual disabilities as part of its diversity and inclusion efforts,” he explains.

according to faa.gov, “Individuals with covered or “severe” disabilities are the most underrepresented segment of the federal workforce. The Persons with Disabilities Program (PWD) guarantees equal federal employment opportunities for people with disabilities. The FAA actively recruits, hires, promotes, retains, develops, and advances people with disabilities. ”

This website also explains what is meant by “qualified disability”. “Qualifying disabilities are those disabilities that the federal government has identified as having special emphasis in recruitment and employment. These include: hearing, vision, limb loss, partial paralysis, complete paralysis, epilepsy, Includes severe intellectual disability, mental disability, and dwarfism.”

“Would you want someone in the tower or making decisions on the plane to be severely mentally ill or profoundly intellectually disabled?'' Glenn asked incredulously.

“I’m going to go with no,” Stu Brusiuere replies. “We want the best person for the job, regardless of skin color or unalterable characteristics.”

Of course, this is not to say that people with disabilities don't deserve respect or shouldn't work, but rather that meritocracy is best for everyone.

“Certain jobs have specific characteristics,” Stu says. “Glenn, you're not the best point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, right? It's not because they hate you or you're discriminated against. You might not have the right aerobic capacity for the gig. do not have.”

Glenn agreed with a laugh, adding that he “suffers from ADD” and “would never be a good pilot.”
