Controversy Surrounds Falcons Coach After Son’s Prank Call
Jacks Ulbric, the son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbric, stirred up quite a bit of discussion when he got ahold of Shedeur Sanders’ phone number from his father’s computer prior to the NFL Draft.
During the draft, Jax decided to call Sanders, which ultimately led to significant consequences. The NFL slapped a $100,000 fine on the assistant coach, and the Falcons themselves were hit with a hefty $250,000 penalty.
Amidst this turmoil, there have been speculations regarding whether Ulbric might lose his position in his second term with the team. Still, he maintained a calm demeanor, stating that he wasn’t concerned about his job being in jeopardy.
“Honestly, I’ve never been through something like this before, but I felt supported from everyone in the organization, even the cafeteria staff. Owner Mr. Arthur Blank and all the others really stood behind me,” Ulbric shared with ESPN.
Ulbric’s coaching career with the Falcons spans various roles from 2015 until 2020. He returned to the team in January to take over as defensive coordinator following the firing of Jimmy Lake at the end of the past season.
Despite the chaotic situation, Ulbric expressed his appreciation for the backing he received and mentioned that it played a significant role in his decision to come back to Atlanta. “That support was truly a reason for my return,” he remarked.
As for how he plans to address Jax’s actions at home, Ulbric mentioned that they are still figuring things out. “It’s been a challenge for us as a family,” he conceded, “but I think it’s going to help my son grow.” He pointed out that a challenge can be a meaningful learning experience for everyone involved.
At a press conference not long ago, Ulbric labeled his son’s prank call as “absolutely unacceptable.” He was unaware of Jax’s involvement until after the draft, and expressed his surprise upon learning the truth.
