Caleb McGarry Injured at Falcons Practice
During practice on Wednesday, the Atlanta Falcons were halted due to a potential lower body injury to right tackle Caleb McGarry. The atmosphere shifted, with teammates gathering around McGarry as he was assisted off the field by Kurt and taken into the building.
“Caleb McGarry is currently undergoing an MRI; updates will be provided as they become available,” a spokesperson from the Falcons shared.
Earlier this month, McGarry signed a two-year, $30 million contract extension. He has been a key player for the Falcons since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft from Washington, showcasing remarkable durability by playing in all 93 regular season games for the team.
While Michael Penix Jr. depended on McGarry as his blindside protector, Elijah Wilkinson stepped in at right tackle after McGarry’s departure from practice. In the Falcons’ second preseason matchup versus the Tennessee Titans, Wilkinson had also played left tackle alongside left guard in the opener against the Detroit Lions.
If McGarry is sidelined for an extended time, it could challenge the Falcons’ offensive tackle depth. Additionally, backup swing tackle Storm Norton is recovering from ankle surgery, expected to keep him out for approximately 6-8 weeks. Norton had missed significant practice time during training camp.
The Falcons are hopeful McGarry will be fit to play in their first game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
